About Akila Siberians
Akila means "Eagle" in the Russian Language. I am very proud to be able to breed and raise these beautiful Siberian cats here in the US with my daughter Samantha.
I love animals very much, and my whole life I had always had a pet cat. When I started my family, we found out that my daughter was allergic to cats. As a result of this, after she was born our family cat went to live with my parents. We had accepted the fact that we could not have one in our home, even though we loved them so dearly. I spent several years trying to find a way that we could have a cat that would not effect her allergies.
I went searching to see if there were any options available that would allow us to have a cat as a pet despite her allergies. I considered solutions ranging from medication to having a hairless cat. In my research I learned that you can still have an allergic reaction to the hairless cats because the allergen is in their saliva, not on their fur. Then I happen to come across a Cat Fancy magazine that featured the Siberian Cat and it's hypoallergenic features. I searched for more information and found out that the Siberian Cat has a non-matting coat, and they are a gentile, loving, and playful breed that have a dog like personality.
I had a hard time finding a Upstate NY breeder so I searched the internet for other breeders. It was then that I found Lynda Nelson with Kravchenko Siberians, and purchased my first Siberian kitten from her. My family and I fell madly in love with him and wanted more. We spoke extensively and we decided it was a good decision to invest in becoming a Siberian cat breeder. Lynda is my mentor and helped me every step of the way and eventually it lead to my joining Prestige.
In the years since, my work with these kittens has inspired me. It has brought a light to my family and the families that have adopted them. The greatest success of all is that my daughter has no reaction to them, and has been able to grow up with these Siberians for most of her life. Now, she and I work together breeding these cats, and bringing joy to peoples lives.
